Analytic Abduction from Qualitative Simulation

چکیده
Many types of dynamic system can be modelled using ordinary differential equations . Recently, there has been much interest in the A.I . community in reasoning about adynamic system by reasoning from this underlying differential equation model. Current approaches fall on a spectrum ranging from numerical (Yip 87, Yip 88], interval [Berleant & Kuipers 88, Davis 87b] through qualitative [Forbus 84, de Kleer & Brown 84, Kuipers 85, Kuipers 861, order of magnitude (Raiman 86, Mavrovouniotis & Stephanopoulos 87, Dague et al . 87, Davis 87a] to exact analytic representations [Sacks 85a, Sacks 85b, Sacks 87, Sacks 88].

متن کاملAnalytic Solution of Qualitative Differential Equations
Numerical simulation, phase-space analysis, and analytic techniques are three methods used to solve quantitative differential equations. Most work in Qualitative Reasoning has dealt with analogs of the first two techniques, producing capabilities applicable to a wide range of systems. Although potentially of benefit, little has been done to provide closed-form, analytic solution techniques for ...
متن کاملAnalysis of Control Systems using Qualitative and Quantitative Simulation
Qualitative simulation and the quantitative extensions of this methodology are powerful tools for the analysis of uncertain dynamic systems. This paper shows the application of such methods for the analysis of nonlinear control systems. The simulation program QSIM and its quantitative extensions Q2 and NSIM are used for this purpose. In addition to the simulation of such systems, attention is a...
متن کاملTowards automated first-order abduction: the cut-based approach
Traditional abduction imposes as a precondition the restriction that the background information may not derive the goal data. In first-order logic such precondition is, in general, undecidable. To avoid such problem, we present a first-order cutbased abduction method, which has KE-tableaux as its underlying inference system. This inference system allows for the automation of non-analytic proofs...
متن کاملApplications of Abduction: Testing Very Long Qualitative Simulations
We can test a theory of “X” by checking if that theory can reproduce known behaviour of “X”. In the general case, this check for time-based simulations is only practical for short simulation runs. We show that given certain reasonable language restrictions, then the complexity of this check reduces to the granularity of the measurements. That is, provided a very long simulation run is only meas...
